Out from Insight. Exhibition of works by Alexandra Mitlyanskaya
25 PETROVKA STREET
About the exhibition
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents Alexandra Mitlyanskaya's solo exhibition From the Inside that explores the fine boundary between the inner world and external reality. Here, the boundary that separates the inner and outer worlds runs between the two rooms. The first one hosts the series When I'm Home Alone that tells the artist's story through objects. Every item, whether it's a travel souvenir, a family heirloom, or a gift from a loved one, becomes part of her autobiography. These objects, all created at different times, come together into a single visual poem about Alexandra Mitlyanskaya's personal space. Three video art works featured in the other room, The Moscow River, A Road in the Dunes and A Grain Pipe, look into our perception of the reality around us. They are woven from the sense of the vastness and impermanence of the world that one feels trying to capture elusive illusions. In a skyline, the movement of natural elements or the play of light and shadow, Alexandra Mitlyanskaya documents moments of everyday reality associated with pure sensations.
The exhibition From the Inside invites the audience on a journey: from the intimate world of Alexandra Mitlyanskaya, filled with her personal belongings, to the boundless space shown through the eyes of the artist.
