Anatoly Akue. Harvest
GOGOLEVSKY 10/2
About the exhibition
The Moscow Museum of Modern Art together with the Triumph Gallery are proud to present Harvest, an exhibition on the artistic experiment of Anatoly Akue. The project is based on the exploration of two astrological traditions – Western astrology and ancient Chinese Ba Zi — and their influence on a person. The exhibition is part of the Young Lions co-operative programme to support young art.
In the Harvest project Anatoly Akue reflects on how people today can change their psychological state by turning to esotericism. He asks if these practices are still relevant, why people seek them out, and what results they can bring. For a year the artist studied and practised two esoteric systems and their implications for personal and artistic experience. As a result two painting series were created specifically for the exhibition at MMOMA, and a block of documentary information accumulated throughout the research.
The artist's paintings, spread over two floors of the museum, are preceded by a methodological block of documentary materials. These include a detailed account of the course of the experiment and the Akue’s method. The exhibition opens with an installation that immerses the viewer in the world of the artist’s studio, which is usually out of view, and reveals the specifics of Anatoly Akue's artistic practice.
