«Klein Blue Mound»
What does the term “contemporary art” mean? Seemingly the only concise and comprehensive solution to this complex discourse is the definition of "live". Contemporary art has to be alive! If it ceases to excite the imagination of the audience, to engage and motivate the viewer, it loses its relevance. What work of art can be considered as "live"? The one that is created right in front of the public, that exists within the modern space and communicates with it. Mikhail Kosolapov’s sculptural object "Klein Blue Mound" is a striking example of a work of art that suits this definition. The artist is known for such kind of spatial objects constructed out of the stationary, defective office supplies and various wastes of civilization. For the creation of this particular work, he used a bunch of molten computer mice and built a large ultramarine mound out of it. The vagueness of its contours and the soft structure of the surface create the illusion of movement. At a cursory glance, it may seem that this biomorphic mass is literally crawling on a vertical wall.
