The Moscow Museum of Modern Art presents The Four Elements, the exhibition which brings together works from different years by sculptors Mikhail Dronov and Viktor Korneev. The project, located on two museum floors, is intended to amply demonstrate the versatility of the artists’ work.
The Four Elements exhibition is not the first collaboration project of Mikhail Dronov and Viktor Korneev, earlier their joint exhibitions were held in the Russian Museum and the Museum of City Sculpture in Saint-Petersburg. Having different artistic styles and developing their own path, Dronov and Korneev approach art and plastic forms in a similar manner.
The works of Dronov and Korneev are united by the reference to the four elements: the familiar Fire, Water, Air and Earth, in which man originally saw power, strength and the root cause of existence. Over time, the ancient Greek philosophers, in their reflections on the world order, began to regard these elements as primary substances: everything that exists in this world consists of their mixture. The main driving force of Mikhail Dronov and Viktor Korneev’s works is the freedom of self-expression through plastics, relying on the universal and unchangeable four elements that allow artists to create their own unique worlds, creating the new and complementing reality. The four elements of Dronov’s and Korneev’s art are complemented by humor, the fifth element that elevates sculpture to an almost living substance.
The exhibition includes more than 100 sculptures made of bronze, stone, wood, plaster, as well as objects made of mixed materials. Some of the works presented at the exhibition will be shown for the first time.
