«PLAYMMOMA: the Game of Contemporary Art!» Kids Festival
Date: May 27 — June 13, 2016
Venue: MMOMA, 25 Petrovka Street

Curators: Anna Arutyunyan, Andrey Egorov, Polina Zotova

The festival «PLAYMMOMA: the Game of Contemporary Art!», aimed for children ages 4-15 and their parents, will introduce a whole range of fun educational activities for kids developed by the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

The Festival is a platform for the pilot version of the online educational game PLAYMMOMA, which will introduce kids to the key concepts and techniques of contemporary art. The game is produced by the Museum together with Bobaka digital agency, and is based on the MMOMA thematic collection exhibition «If I Only Knew!.. A Practical Guide to Contemporary Art» (2010-2011). The pilot version is financed by the Vladimir Potanin Foundation within the grant competition «Changing Museum in a Changing World».

Sections of the Festival’s space are designed as interactive workshops. They reflect the structure of the online game and correlate with the formats of the MMOMA children’s programs and master classes. In the halls of the third floor of the museum premises at Petrovka Street, visitors can test the online game, build a real installation of mail boxes, participate in a performance, create their own animated films and much more! One of the Festival’s sections will show a special project by the Izobrulo bureau — a collection of camera obscura devices, painted by celebrated artists.

The Festival will be accompanied by the exhibition of 29 artworks by contemporary artists from the MMOMA collection. These works are used as contextual references in the online game. In the Festival’s space, they will give rise to different fun offline activities.
